Utah Fall photo locations are some of Utah’s most hidden gems! Utah erupts into a bliss of yellow, orange and red by mid September through October and makes for the best photo backdrops. Today we are sharing 10 of our favorite Fall locations for photos.
Fall is my absolute favorite time of the year for photos and one of your last chances for photos before snow is on the ground and just in time for your Christmas card photos.
1. Memory Grove Park
Memory Grove Park is one of my favorite locations in the Spring and Fall! This park, which attracts dog lovers, runners, and photographers is a hidden gem at the heart of downtown Salt Lake City. Memory Grove is in it’s own little valley. Which makes for great sessions at brighter times of the day. It’s also close to the Salt Lake Capital and the rest of downtown if you’re looking for multiple locations in one.
**There’s two parking spots for this location. If you don’t want to walk far, the lower parking is better. If you’re okay with a short walk, the upper parking tends to be less crowded and you get a scenic walk in as well!2. Brigham Young Historic Park
This park is actually within walking distance of Memory Grove Park but has a better view of Downtown Salt Lake and gets a little more sunlight than Memory Grove Park typically does.
Big Cottonwood Canyon
You honestly can’t go wrong with just about anywhere up Big Cottonwood Canyon, but here are a few of my favorite pull offs. Big and Little Cottonwood Canyon don’t allow any pets so keep that in mind as you’re planning any pet family members. Did you know you can drive up Big Cottonwood Canyon from Salt Lake and down through Park City or Midway or vise versa? Make a scenic drive out of it! You won’t regret it!
3. Jordan Pines Campground/Donut Falls Trailhead
This location is located about 20 minutes up the canyon. You can find some of the most EPIC mountain views here and the fall colors are unreal! It is one of Utah’s most popular photo locations and if you visit you’ll understand why!
4. Silver Lake
Silver Lake, near Brighton Ski Resort is another very popular fall location located up Big Cottonwood Canyon. Snow has been known to fall as early as late September, so be prepared for cooler temperatures and plan for an earlier session time.
5. Empire Pass
Located about 20 minutes further up Big Cottonwood Canyon through Guardsman Pass is Empire Pass. Just before you go down into Park City. This location has on e of the largest areas of Aspens in the world (don’t fact check me, but really, there are a lot and they are epic).6. Tibble Fork Reservoir
Tibble Fork Reservoir will never lead you astray no matter the season! The reservoir makes for a beautiful Evergreen backdrop surrounded by trees popping with color.
**American Fork Canyon does not have cell service so I always recommend meeting anyone you’re planning to meet at the bottom of the canyon and jump into one car or follow each other up incase you have any trouble.
7. Neff’s Canyon
If you’re looking for a fall mountain location that allows pets, this is a great alternative to Big Cottonwood Canyon! Located within 15 minutes of downtown and not only backs up to an incredible mountain, but also has a gorgeous view of Salt Lake.
8. Hidden Valley Park
This beautiful park is located in Sandy and backs right up to a magnificent mountain full of color! This location is great for young kids and tends to be warmer than locations up in the mountains. The sun stays out later at this location, so keep that in mind when planning your session.
9. Aspen Grove (Near Provo, Utah)
One of Provo’s most popular Fall picture spots, and you can see why! The mountain backdrop with those Aspens makes for an amazing view! It does get darker at this location even earlier than the rest of the valley so I would recommend starting a little earlier here! Also, puppies are always welcome in photos!!
10. Big Mountain Pass (Between Salt Lake & Morgan, Utah)
Last but certainly not least, my absolute FAVORITE Fall location that most people have never heard of…. I found this location last year for my own fall couples photos (Fall really is THE best time for photos!) Awkwardly, we broke up but the pictures are so good I couldn’t help but share this epic location! Even if you are just going for a drive this is my absolute FAVORITE location close to Salt Lake and makes for an amazing backdrop for photos.
For the first time ever, we will be offering 25 AND 10 minute mini sessions at a few of these favorite fall locations. So often we hear things like: “I can’t convince my husband” or “I only need a few photos for the Christmas card” or “I can’t afford a longer session.” which is why we think a 10 minute session is perfect for all of these reasons and more! We are also happy to schedule full sessions if you want to take full advantage of Utah’s beautiful Fall colors!
Please contact me to book your session, spots fill up fast. To view more of our work, follow us on Instagram.
